LAHORE:

The city government on Friday sealed two plastic factories located in residential areas for posing a risk to their neighbours.

The crackdown against the factories at Kot Kamboh and Bund Road was carried out by a five-member committee.

Both factories were sealed and cases were registered against the owners.

The district administration announced on Thursday to launch a “massive crackdown against 267 factories” which had not yet taken proper security and safety measures.

District Officer (Industries) Muhammad Azhar said surprise raids would be carried out at the factories. “We have given them enough time to relocate,” he said.

The first notice was dispatched to 71 factories on June 6, 2013 (issued on 31 May). The factories were asked to fix several problems identified in a survey conducted in September 2012.
