Scores of people from Chak 136-GB and its adjoining areas staged a protest demonstration on Thursday against Tarkhani police over their inaction against the increase of cattle lifting incidents in the area.
The protesters gathered on the Samundri-Tarkhani Road and blocked it for several hours.
Muhammad Amin, one of the protesters, said cattle lifting had become routine in the area. He said there wasn’t a day when two or three cattle were not stolen from the area.
“We have reported thefts to the police several times and requested them to be vigilant during night patrol, but they haven’t arrested anyone yet.”
He said even after the complaints, several cattle had been stolen.
He said at least 700 cattle had been stolen in the last month.
The protesters shouted slogans against the police and demanded that they take immediate action against cattle thieves and provide safety to the lives and property of the citizens.
The Samundri deputy superintendent police visited the scene and assured the protesters that action would be taken on their complaint.
