Shoania to be ambassadors of health and population control?

Express April 14, 2010

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Ministry for Population has said it aims to make both Sania Mirza and Shoaib Malik ambassadors of health and population control in Pakistan.

The Minister for Population Firdaus Ashiq Awan spoke to the media as she was leaving for India on an invitation by her Indian counterpart.

Firdaus told the media that she will take gifts and a 'crown of honour' from the people of Sialkot for Sania. She said the Indian minister for population welfare Ghulam Husain Azad had invited her to India.

Firdaus said she is also scheduled to meet other Indian government officials. The Population Minister said Sania and Shoaib could bring a change in Pakistan by becoming a symbol of health and population welfare and control.

She said India and Pakistan face similar challenges in terms of social issues and the newly wed couple could help us improve the situation on both sides.

Well If Indians did not give the passport it was their problem, while it was Sania that stood by her husband throughout this phase against all this campaign against this marriage. A good deed should never weighed against bad deeds of one side. However the secular nature of the largest country had been exposed to a great degree.
Gulkhaiz | 14 years ago | Reply It is really astonishing. How can Sania become our Ambassodor, when she is still an Indian national?Probably minister is mixing it with brand ambassodor of a brand. What brand ? It is a typical emotional and irrational announcement by an immuture politician. We are bending upside down to please Indians where as they have still not returned the passport of Shoaib. Moreover what is the big deal of this marriage. It is trivial issue and does not warrant such announcements.Shoaib has not done any wonders for the country that he deserves this honour. Dr. Firdaus has no idea as to what national self respect implies at international forum.
