Bomb Disposal Squad clears two bomb threats in Karachi

BDS declares Karachi Water and Sewerage Board Head Office safe, defuses bomb in SITE.

KARACHI: Two bomb threats in Karachi were cleared by the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) on Thursday, Express News reported.

It was reported that information was received regarding the presence of two bombs at the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board Head Office as well as the Sindh Industrial and Trading Estate (SITE) area of the city respectively.

After reaching both the sites, BDS declared the head office safe and defused the bomb in the SITE area.

The SITE area bomb was found in a bottle on a footpath near Habib Bank Chowrangi. According to BDS, 10kg of explosives were used in the bomb.

Express News correspondent reported that it took 30 to 45 minutes to defuse the bomb.

While there have been several bomb blasts in Karachi in the past few months, the police and the Bomb Disposal Squad have also successfully managed to defuse many bombs.

Previous incidents in Karachi

In November last year, a bomb placed near an Imambargah in the city was recovered and defused during investigation of a firing incident that had left three persons injured. BDS experts had later said that it was a 4 kilogram IED packed with ball bearings.

Three bombs were found near Jamia mosque in Ahsanabad on October 15, 2013. BDS had taken the bombs to a nearby police station where they were defused.

One of the bombs was around six inches long while one of the others was 12 inches in length. Two of the bombs were around 1.5-2 inches thick.
