HARIPUR: IGP Nasir Khan Durrani suspended Khanpur SHO Bashir Khan and two constables on Tuesday for subjecting a detainee to torture last year.

According to the police report, SHO Bashir and his two constables Sohail and Mushtaq allegedly beat up 26-year-old Sabir, a technician after he delayed fixing a police officer’s personal car on June 19, 2013.

After being severely beaten, the technician’s spinal cord suffered injuries and he was partially disabled and hospitalised in Rawalpindi.

The incident sparked protests from human right organisations and lawyers after which the then DPO Najeebur Rehman Bhagvi suspended the accused police officials on July 2 and registered a case against them.

Later, the complainant withdrew the case against the SHO after the former reportedly paid for Sabir’s treatment.

The human rights organisations kept protesting and sought action against the accused besides rehabilitation of the victim.

The case was then referred to IGP Durrani on Tuesday who ordered the suspension of the SHO and his two constables again.
