Panchayat ‘order’: 10th rape suspect arrested

Supreme Court takes suo motu notice of the matter and summons the Punjab Police inspector general.

MUZAFFARGARH: Another man accused of raping a woman on the orders of a panchayat in Muzaffargarh was arrested on Monday. At the panchayat held last week a villager accused a relative of having an affair with his wife. The panchayat’s leader, Muhammad Nawaz, allegedly ordered that a sister of the accused be raped by men supporting the complainant. The Supreme Court has taken suo motu notice of the matter and summoned the Punjab Police inspector general.
