MULTAN:

An exhibition of south Punjab’s rural handicrafts prepared by local craftswomen would begin at the Multan Arts Council on February 1. The exhibition would continue for four days.

The exhibition had been organised by Encourage the Human Development, a non government organization working for the empowerment of rural community, particularly women and children. The NGO has set up vocational skill development centres in Multan, Muzaffargarh, Khanewal and Bahawalpur districts for capacity building of women in vocational training and marketing.

Women from these centres will display their handmade products, including embroidered clothes, cushions, painting and pottery at the exhibition.

The NGO’s executive director, Munazza Hashmi, stressed a need for promoting such women to empower them. Sales from the exhibition, she said, would help these women to being financially independent.
