Iqbal among leaders in CAS Golf Championship

Four-day tournament offers Rs3.2m as prize money.

KARACHI: Defending champion Shabbir Iqbal was among the four contestants who led the opening day of the 33rd Chief of Air Staff Open Golf Championship that teed off on Thursday at the Airmen Golf Course in Karachi.

Iqbal, who won the previous edition, fired one under-par 71 to emerge among the leading contenders after the opener. The other golfers who matched his performance were Mohammad Afzal, Daniyal Jahangir and Mohammad Munir.

Meanwhile, Humaira Khalid led the women’s competition with a gross of 43 followed by Aania Farooq who scored 45.

Around 300 golfers are featuring in the event that is offering Rs3.2 million as prize money. Additionally, any golfer who strikes a hole-in-one will be rewarded with a car, according to the organisers.

Apart from the above-mentioned events, other categories include the amateurs event, masters and invitees.
