KARACHI: The city started work on the 40th and 41st flyovers of Karachi on Wednesday when local government minister, Sharjeel Inam Memon, laid foundation stones at Malir Halt and Malir 15. They will cost one billion rupees in total (Malir Halt Rs386 million and Malir 15 Rs532 million). It is expected that they will take a year to build but he hoped it would just be six months if construction is swift. Karachi Administrator Rauf Akhtar Farooqui said that they would facilitate traffic going from Shahrah-e-Faisal to the National Highway. The Malir Halt flyover will be three lanes, 440 meters long. Alternate routes for the duration of construction are being designed. The railways has allowed the city to use some of its land and 18 cables for utility services were being shifted.
