Ensuring safe supply: Illegal blood banks to be closed

Around 172 blood banks have been registered in the Sindh province so far.

KARACHI: Blood banks across the province are being monitored to ensure safe supply of blood and to keep a check on illegal blood banks, said the Sindh Blood Transfusion Authority’s (SBTA) provincial project director and secretary, Dr Zahid Hasan Ansari, on Wednesday. The Karachi commissioner and other authorities will be assisting the SBTA as they are currently facing resistance in Lyari, Surjani and Metroville. Around 172 blood banks have been registered in the Sindh province so far, while about 160 illegal blood banks have been shut across the province since 1989.
