PARACHINAR: A woman was killed when she stepped on a landmine planted by unknown militants at a roadside in Upper Kurram Agency on Tuesday.

Two other women were also injured in the explosion.

An official of the political administration stated that the incident occurred near the Sar Surang area. The deceased was identified as the wife of Talib Din. It was reported that she, along with two other women, was on their way to a field when she stepped on the landmine.

The official added that the woman succumbed to her injuries on the way to hospital in Lower Kurram Agency. The other two women were shifted to a hospital in Hangu.

Landmines are usually planted along the road to target convoys of security forces. The security forces too plant mines near check posts to deter militant attacks. Some mines are left over from the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan.
