Discovering a storyteller: Play marks Manto’s death anniversary

A play to mark death anniversary of Pakistan’s most renowned short story writer was organised by Aks theatre group.

LAHORE: A play to mark the death anniversary of Saadat Hassan Manto, Pakistan’s most renowned short story writer, was organised by the Aks theatre group on Friday and Saturday. The play was poorly attended on both days. The play was written by Afzaal Nabi, who also played the part of Manto. Manto was born on May 11, 1912 and breathed his last on January 18th 1955 at the age of 42. Qaiser Sultan Hussain, one of the audience, said, “It was an amateur attempt by the artists but they should be given credit for putting together a play on the occasion The play was scheduled to start at 6:30 pm but failed on both days to start on time.
