BAHAWALPUR:

Following a Rs600,000 robbery worth of jewellery from Sonaar Bazaar, Rahim Yar Khan, last week, District Police Officer Sohail Zafar Chattha on Friday ordered a crackdown against wanted criminals in the district.

He directed the station house officers to meet with jewellers to discuss security measures at Sonaar Bazaar.

The DPO held a meeting with SDPOs and SHOs on Wednesday to review the law and order situation in the district.

He said that times were changing and criminals were coming up with innovative ways to trick the police.

He said the police should use modern technology to trace criminals, but “we should not forget that traditional methods too can be effective”.

There had been noticeable improvement in the crime rate, the DPO said, but he wanted a substantial decrease in the crime rate. He said no police officer should be weak, lenient or negligent at any time.

He told police officers to submit a report on wanted criminals at the next meeting where a plan of action would be discussed.

He told the SHOs to prepare a file on every wanted criminal listing all crimes and police stations where cases had been registered against them.

The station house officers were also directed to hold meetings with the owners of jewellery shops in Sonaar Bazaar and assist them in developing effective security systems for their shops.
