
An additional sessions judge on Friday summoned the Bundu Khan restaurant manager and a food safety officer in criminal revision petition against an order regarding the use of substandard ghee in food served at the restaurant.
Hamza Vegetable Oil Refinery and Ghee Mills Pvt Ltd Admin Manager Muhammad Yousaf had filed a criminal revision petition seeking the suspension of an order by Magistrate Muhammad Imran Ishaque.
The judicial magistrate had summoned Yousaf on a petition by the Bundu Khan manager.
The manager had said that the Food Authority had declared samples of ghee, the restaurant had purchased from Hamza Vegetable Oil Refinery and Ghee Mills Pvt Ltd, substandard.
Yousaf told the court that the summons was issued illegally and should be declared null and void.
He said the application submitted by Bundu Khan’s manager was out of context as the sample of ghee declared substandard had not been taken from the ghee factory.

Yousaf said the company had an excellent reputation and took strict measures to enforce quality control. He said there had been no direct allegation against the company.
Food Safety Officer Aneequr Rehman had taken a 750g sample of ghee from the Bundu Khan restaurant to examine it for quality. The sample had turned out substandard. Later, the Bundu Khan manager told a court that the restaurant had purchased the ghee from the aforementioned company.
Bundu Khan Manager Rana Mumtaz Ahmed told The Express Tribune that the restaurant did not use substandard ghee.
He said the ghee in question had not been manufactured by the restaurant but supplied by Hamza Vegetable Oil Refinery and Ghee Mills Pvt Ltd.
