LAHORE: A bit of clever action from a police constable brought an end to the  saga of a jilted lover in Lahore who had threatened to shoot himself dead, unless the girl he desired consented to marry him, Express News reported.

The individual identified as Kamran, had reportedly been rejected by a girl he wanted to pursue and as a last resort had threatened to commit suicide unless she changed her mind.

Hailing from Gawalmandi in Lahore, Kamran had taken perch near the girl's workplace outside Police Lines with a gun.

Police officials took notice of Kamran's suspect behaviour and became alarmed when he put the gun to his own head.

Officials tried talking him out of pulling the trigger, but this only seemed to anger Kamran more, who fired into the air.

Though officials backed off they tried to corner him. Finally, an official called Abdul Jabbar saw a lapse in Kamran's concentration. He acted swiftly to catch the suspect off guard and wrested the weapon from his hands. Disarmed, Kamran was subdued by other officers at the scene.

Officials later claimed that Kamran was under the influence of alcohol throughout the episode.

The culprit’s family has been called to the police station and an investigation is continuing.
