Making progress: ‘Sukkur Barrage work to be completed’

Babar Effandi said that 80 per cent of the work being done on the Sukkur Barrage has already been completed.

SUKKUR: Sindh Irrigation Secretary Babar Effandi said that 80 per cent of the work being done on the Sukkur Barrage has already been completed and the remaining work will be completed on schedule. Effandi claimed that the survey for modernisation and rehabilitation has been completed and a model study is now being carried out. “Rehabilitation work will start as soon as the model study is completed,” he added. Talking about the water shortage in Sindh, the irrigation secretary pointed out that despite having an official capacity of 1.2 million cusecs, the Sukkur Barrage can handle 1.5 million cusecs of water.
