The new British High Commissioner for Pakistan Philip Barton arrived in the federal capital on Wednesday to replace Adam Thompson, who left Islamabad last month.
According to a press release issued by the British High Commission, Barton has a wealth of experience working on Pakistan, having served as the British Foreign Office’s additional director for South Asia from 2008-09, and then the cabinet office coordinator for Afghanistan and Pakistan from 2009-2011. More recently, Barton served as the British deputy ambassador to Washington.
A ceremony for the high commissioner-designate to present his credentials to President Mamnoon Hussain will take place in the coming days, the press releases stated.
“I am delighted to become Her Majesty’s High Commissioner to Pakistan,” Barton said. “I am committed to strengthening these connections during my time here, building on the excellent work of my predecessor Sir Adam Thomson,” Barton said.
He also pointed out the UK’s continued cooperation with Pakistan on trade and investments.

“The UK is working closely with Pakistan through extensive cooperation on investment, energy, education and security,” he said.
“I am immensely looking forward to working with all sections of Pakistani society to continue to build a relationship based on partnership, trust and shared understanding.”
