LAHORE:

Young Doctors Association representatives Dr Ahmed, Dr Khalid and Dr Noman said on Sunday that all doctors should be sent to rural health centres and basic health units for two months each to provide health care services in rural areas. This would decrease the workload at teaching hospitals, they said.

The YDA has sent its plan for the RHCs and the BHUs to the government, the USAID, the WHO and the UNICEF.

The YDA representatives said there were 2,450 BHUs and 1,050 RHCs. They said billions of rupees spent on these projects were going waste. They suggested that the chief minister should convene a meeting to finalise a policy to send doctors to these centres on a rotation basis. “Ideally a district each should be attached to a teaching hospital for the purpose” they added.
