FAISALABAD:

A woman was attacked with acid by unidentified men on a motorcycle in Dijkot area on Sunday. Police said Rukhsana Bibi, a resident of Chak 243-RB, was travelling with her husband and brother, Ali Raza, on a motorcycle when two men on motorcycles threw acid on her face and fled.

Muqaddas Ali, Rukhsana Bibi’s husband, told The Express Tribune that they were on their way home after visiting his wife’s family. Two men on motorcycles, wearing masks, stopped them near Roshanwali and threw acid on Rukhsana Bibi’s face, he said. “My wife suffered burns to her face, neck and shoulders,” he said. “I tried to catch the assailants but failed.” He said that he called Rescue-1122 and they took his wife to Allied Hospital. “The doctors said her condition was serious,” Ali said.

Dr Zia Batool of Allied Hospital Emergency Ward said, “We are trying to save her eyes but it doesn’t seem likely.”

The Dijkot SHO said the police were waiting for the medical examination report. “A police team has been formed to look for the culprits,” he said.
