The annual district bar association elections, held on Saturday throughout the Punjab, concluded in an orderly manner with no untoward incidents reported anywhere except from the Faisalabad Kutchery where supporters of the winning candidate celebrated his victory in a raucous fashion.
Kotwali police have booked eight people for firing shots in the air to celebrate their candidate’s victory on Saturday night.
Kotwali Security Officer Head Constable Amanullah filed the complaint. He said supporters of Chaudhry Tanveerur Rehman Randhawa, the newly elected bar resident, fired shots in the air to celebrate his victory in the DBA elections.
Police have registered a case against eight people including Afzal Dhilloon, Khalid, Shani, Ashfa, Ali Hassan and three unidentified persons under Sections 337-H(2), 148 and 149. However, no arrests have been made so far, the spokesman said.
The shots were fired immediately after DBA election commission chairman Mirza Muhammad Amin Mughal announced the results.
Police were present but made no attempt to arrest the men. Punjab Police Inspector General Khan Baig was addressing a meeting on security at the Police Lines, a short distance away from Kutchery.
City Police Officer Haidar Ashraf later directed the Kotwali police to register cases against the culprits.
Elsewhere, Sher Zaman Qureshi, the former Multan district bar association, was re-elected. He had promised women lawyers more representation at every forum. He said he would ensure the completion of a new Kutchery for Multan and work for a housing colony for lawyers.
In Khanewal, Rai Yousaf became president. He had promised clean drinking water, free medical services and new chambers for lawyers at the bar.
In Vehari, Sher Bahadur Luk became the bar president. He had promised to get the lawyers’ chambers repaired and to refurbish the bar’s library.
In Lodhran, Azhar Langah won. He had promised to have boundary walls built around the Kutchery.
In Bahawalnagar, Amir Faheem became president. He had promised a housing colony, new chambers and an updated library for lawyers.
In Rahim Yar Khan Chaudhry Manzoor Waraich became president. He had promised to work to get a consumer court and special court benches established at Rahim Yar Khan.
In Dera Ghazi Khan, Qazi Saduruddin became president of the district bar. He had promised lawyers that he would work to get a separate bench of the Lahore High Court established in Dera Ghazi Khan.
In Rajanpur, Rafi Pachaar won. He had promised an updated library, free medical services, new chambers and a housing colony for lawyers.
In Muzafarrgarh, Mian Mushahid became president. In Layyah, Mehar Habibullah won.
In Bhakkar, Rafeeq Ahmed Khan Niazi won with 346 votes. He had promised to work for the establishment of a professional academy for lawyers where they would be taught by judges. He had also promised to work to establish courts in the sub districts of Bhakkar.
In Mianwali, Malik Liaquat Ali became president. He had demanded a new bench of the Lahore High Court for Sarogodha, a lawyers’ professional academy and a housing colony for lawyers and judges which had been promised by former chief minister Chaudhry Pervez Elahi.
In Pakpattan, Naeem Nawaz became president unopposed. This was the only district where a president was appointed without competition. He had promised lawyers a housing colony, new chambers and an updated library.
In Okara, Shafiq Kharal won the presidency. He had promised lawyers a separate Lahore High Court bench in Sahiwal and a professional academy for lawyers.
In Sahiwal Raja Javaid Mehmood won. He had promised lawyers that he work to establish a High Court bench, housing colony, updated library, new chambers and a professional academy for lawyers.
Under the law Section 337-H(2)
Whoever does any act so rashly or negligently as to endanger human life or the personal safety of other, shall be punished with imprisonment of either-description for a term which may extend to three months, or with fine, or with both

Khushab district bar association also elected their president unopposed. Mr.Malik Muhammad Aazam Khan Rajar was declared as president DBA Khushab by voter members of this bar association.
