Temporary post: Sindh government appoints new prosecutor general

Shahadat Awan held the post until September, he was asked to take back his resignation.

The Sindh government has appointed a new prosecutor general on contract basis for three months, The Express Tribune has learnt.

Sources said Sher Muhammad Shaikh, who was performing his duties at the Sindh advocate-general office as additional advocate-general, has been appointed as the Sindh prosecutor general with immediate effect. The law department said the services, general administration and cooperation department has issued an official notification on January 9 with the approval of the chief minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah.

According to the notification, Shaikh has been appointed as the top prosecutor in the province, who would be heading the prosecutor general office on a contractual basis for a period of three months.



Former prosecutor general and a well-known local leader of the ruling Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Shahadat Awan, had earlier resigned due to personal reasons in mid-September last year. However, his resignatation was delayed as he was being asked to take back his decision.

Awan was appointed in May 2008, months after his party, the PPP, came into power after February 2008 general elections.
