SC focuses on LNG case

Express April 14, 2010

ISLAMABAD:

The Petroleum Secretary has been ordered by the Supreme Court to submit the original record of the Economic Coordination Committee regarding the LNG case.

During the hearing today, the apex court showed resentment for not having received the original ECC summary. Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry said no one would be allowed to rob the public's money, and added that those wanting to be party to the contract needed to file their replies.

Counsel for the Petroleum Ministry, SM Zafar said the contract will not be awarded until the court decides the case. The CJP took suo motu notice on a newspaper report revealing the scandal.

The report said one billion dollars were lost when senior Petroleum Ministry officials ignored the lowest bid by Fauji Foundation and European company Vitol for a 3.5 million tonnes a year contract.
