Fast-tracking: OGDC working to meet energy needs

The project will contribute an additional 4,500 oil barrel (bbl) and 12-15 MMCD gas to the system.

ISLAMABAD: As part of efforts to overcome the energy crisis, the Oil and Gas Development Company has accelerated its efforts towards the Nashpa-IV project, which is in now in its final stage, official sources said. The project, which is expected to be completed soon, will contribute an additional 4,500 oil barrel (bbl) and 12-15 MMCD gas to the system. According to sources, the government had started work on the import of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) on a fast-track basis with Qatar agreeing to provide 400 MMCFD LNG to Pakistan by November 2014. There is no LNG terminal in the country and proposals have been presented to the Economic Cooperation Committee. Additionally, the government is also taking measures to explore indigenous hydro-carbon resources, amending and then implementing the Petroleum Exploration and Production Policy 2012.
