PESHAWAR: All four men killed in the blast in Garhi Sher Khan, Badhaber on Tuesday night were members of a militant outfit who were transporting eight kilogrammes of explosives, said a police official on Wednesday.

He said the explosives accidently went off in the rickshaw they were travelling in, killing four men on the spot and injuring two others. The deceased were identified as Lal Bacha, Syed Rehman, Shahid Muhammad and Abdul Wali, while Rohullah and Farid were injured.

“The accused were transporting the explosives they had made inside a rented house in Garhi Sher Khan where they had been active since long,” he said, adding the injured are being interrogated.

“We have recovered jihadi literature and other things used to manufacture the explosives, including two kilogrammes of ball bearings, two batteries, a 40-metre cable and pressure cookers,” shared the police official. He said Rohullah, who was in critical condition, was arrested from the hospital.

Understanding terrorism

IGP Nasir Khan Durrani on Wednesday said the root causes of terrorism should be understood and addressed accordingly in order to eliminate the scourge.

“As a nation, we Pakistanis only identify problems and don’t go for its solution, which is unfortunate,” said Durrani while talking to media personnel during his visit to Malik Saad Shaheed Sports Trust. He added the police will try its best to combat the menace this year.

The IGP lauded the services of the bomb disposal unit in the province and said the police force has rendered many sacrifices. “Police needs encouragement but no one has given them the much-needed morale boost,” he added.

About the recent incidents of kidnapping for ransom in Hayatabad, he said gaps in the boundary wall dividing the area from adjacent Khyber Agency gives kidnappers a golden opportunity to transport their victims to the tribal belt.
