Various residents, The Express Tribune spoke to, were all praise for the volunteer organisations, including Edhi Foundation and Chhipa.
“A dozen Edhi ambulances stationed around Qayyumabad and Clifton are ready to help residents,” said Edhi spokesperson Anwar Kazmi, adding that more vehicles stationed at the major public health hospitals can also be called, if necessary.
He lamented that despite such efforts the concept of timely response in emergency remains a difficult task to achieve. Drivers of the volunteer ambulance services said driving around the maze the Defence phases makes quick response an uphill task.
“Only a handful of the drivers who regularly visit Defence can reach on time as they are familiar with the phases, blocks and streets. But, a fresh driver could take weeks or may be months to navigate,” said a driver.
