KARACHI:

Armed men reportedly opened fire outside the residence of social worker Ansar Burney in Block-F in North Nazimabad on the night between Friday and Saturday.

When the drive-by shooting took place, Burney said he was present inside his house.

Reacting on the information, the Rangers and police reached the area and found four empty shells of .32 bore revolver from the site. "We are trying to ascertain how Burney found the empties from the site when he himself said that the car did not stop and the armed men fired from a driving vehicle," North Nazimabad SP Muhammad Akhtar told The Express Tribune. The concern is that empties of .32 bore revolver remain inside the revolver when fired, he added. "Burney did not inform us. Instead of informing the police or Madadgar 15, he informed the media. He also refused to register an FIR. Maybe he wants police security."

On the other hand, Burney told The Express Tribune that he was not afraid and will continue with the social work. "I am ready to sacrifice everything for humanity and will not leave the country at any cost," he said. "Though I am a social worker and had been at top positions in the government, no police protection has been provided to me."
