An alleged extortionist was granted bail by the Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Friday.
A single-member bench comprising Justice Mian Fasihul Mulk accepted the bail application of Salim Khan, who was arrested for allegedly demanding extortion from Mumshad Khan, a resident of Bhanamari, two months ago.
The state’s counsel told the bench Salim allegedly made threatening phone calls to Mumshad and demanded money. The lawyer added Salim also sent a letter to Mumshad pretending to be a member of the Taliban, after which on November 13, Mumshad lodged a case at Bhanamari police station against Salim and two others identified as Sher Ali and Mehrin.
Salim’s lawyer, on the other hand, said all allegations leveled against his client were not based on facts. He informed the court a monetary dispute did exist between his client and Sher Ali and there was evidence to prove it as well.
“However, it remains unconfirmed whether the person who called Mumshad was Salim or not,” contended the lawyer.
