CNG station owners allege discrimination

Association says gas pressure has gone down substantially.

ISLAMABAD: The All Pakistan CNG Association (APCNGA) has alleged that the CNG sector in Punjab has been subjected to discrimination as many owners of CNG stations, their workers and transporters are losing their livelihood.

Fertiliser, textile and other sectors were receiving gas to run their businesses, but the CNG sector was being punished, which was an attempt to influence the decision of the court which had allowed some CNG filling stations to resume operations in the twin cities, said APCNGA Supreme Council Chairman Ghiyas Abdullah Paracha in a statement on Thursday.

According to him, the court has allowed 70 filling stations to start operation while 530 stations have been closed down indefinitely. Gas pressure had also gone down substantially, he said.

Paracha suggested that the CNG sector should be allocated a quota in natural gas like other gas-consuming sectors, otherwise, the government should provide compensation to all the people associated with this sector.

He asked the prime minister to intervene in the matter to ensure justice to the people and save their livelihood.
