SUKKUR: The leader of the opposition in the National Assembly, Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah, has said that the opposition should not always be at loggerheads with the government, but make efforts to resolve issues in the parliament.

He was speaking to media personnel at the inaugural ceremony of the free eye camp at the Mustafai Hospital in Sukkur on Wednesday. In his address, Shah stressed that it was wrong to stage protests and sit-ins at this juncture.

According to him, the present government had been there only for just six months and should be accorded more time to improve their performance to resolve the people’s issues. He said that the Pakistan Peoples Party, during its tenure, had tried to overcome the price hike and load shedding but the people of Pakistan had expressed their discontent by voting against them. “People are the best judge to gauge the performance of the government through general elections,” he reasoned.

“As leader of the opposition, I am well aware of my responsibilities,” said Shah. Referring to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chief Imran Khan’s announcement regarding a rally against inflation in Sindh, Shah quipped that Khan should take corrective measures in Khyber Pakhtukhwa first.

Speaking about the interior minister, Chaudhary Nisar Ahmed Khan’s statement, he said that the parliamentarians had boycotted proceedings owing to his use of the word, ‘Tamasha’. He expressed ignorance regarding the PPP chairperson Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s hint about changing the opposition leader.
