ISLAMABAD: The interior ministry has asked defence authorities to share any records or data related to the Asghar Khan case being probed by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), officials told The Express Tribune on Saturday.

On the request of FIA’s special four-member team probing the case, the interior ministry wrote a letter to the defence ministry, seeking records of the case from the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) if any are available. “The records are either with the ISI or the GHQ in Rawalpindi, with both of them apparently associated with the case,” stated the letter.

The FIA team will record the statements of the former army chief Gen (retd) Aslam Beg and former ISI chief Lt-Gen (retd) Asad Durrani next month, said officials. Statements of politicians, as well as the former chief of the defunct Mehran Bank, Younis Habib, will also be recorded during the same time.

On Friday, Air Marshal (retd) Asghar Khan recorded his statement with the FIA team and had reportedly said that army discipline had been breached  and culpable must be punished.
