Spring 2014 will see revival of classic beauty look with spin on modernity. Bright red lip, subtle eyes, twisty hairdo

KARACHI:

Every bride-to-be wants a picture-perfect, radiant glow on her wedding day, that would simply bowl her man over. However, just having the desire to look exquisite is less likely to make your dreams come true in the real world. It depends heavily on current trends and your potential wedding day Aphrodite.

Although spring may seem far-off and one would rather focus their energies on the zillion other things on the to-do list, there is no harm in pre-planning a look in order to avoid a Filmazia bridal make-up disaster. While selecting a make-up artist is almost directly proportional to your budget, our trends guide can offer you some much-needed inspiration for a timeless wedding day look.

Spring 2014 will see the revival of a classic beauty look with a spin on modernity — bright red lips, subtle eyes and twisty hairdos. According to Pakistan’s most sought-after make-up expert Nabila, the upcoming season will bring the “standard red lip to life, with added dimensions, by using a glossy finish; where as the skin will be kept creamy and flawless.”

For a long time, Pakistani brides have had a tendency to emphasise on intense, smoky eye make-up. However, make-up artist Maghul at Arammish Salon in Lahore suggests that the tables have turned and now it’s all about enhancing one’s natural beauty and cutting-edge minimalism when it comes to bridal make-up. “There’s been an inclination to a more natural look, rather than completely masking the brides natural complexion. The emphasis is more on lips and less on eyes,” she highlights.

Nevertheless, brides can still add a dash of drama to their eyes with the perennially stylish wing-tipped eyeliner, according to self-taught beautician Raana Khan. Believing that style is innate, Khan feels that bridal make-up is more a result of personality than current trends. “It totally depends on the personality of the bride and that I can tell by her dress and jewelry. Mostly brides want a traditional look on the wedding day and contemporary on the reception,” she says.

As far as hairdos are concerned, it’s time to let go of those passé chignons and take more risks, inspired by the hottest of runways. A loosely-structured messy braid or a romantic flower behind your ear; it’s time to let your hair do the talking. “Brides have started becoming more open-minded and are now taking inspiration from foreign trends. They’re shifting away from the typical middle-parting and big jooras, to loose curls, side braids, twists and updos. We are also looking at some pastel flowers or feathers on the side,” Lahore-based freelance make-up artist Madiha Qaiser says.

While all these trends can give you a clearer idea of what you should look out for in case your wedding is around the corner, it is important to remember that the health of your skin is your own responsibility. Make sure you regularly use sun block, get a facial at least once a month, drink lots of water and ditch unnecessary pills for worthwhile multi-vitamins. Add this to your skin-care regime for the next few months and you are bound to blow everyone away.
