Around 33 militants were killed in clashes with security forces in the North Waziristan Agency, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a communiqué on Thursday.
According to the statement, the first clash erupted on Wednesday night between security officials and militants, who tried to ambush a convoy of security personnel returning from Khajori check-post after concluding a rescue operation. Some 23 militants were killed in the firefight.
“In exchange of fire three security forces’ personnel were also injured,” the press release added.
In another incident, security forces raided the hideouts of militants in Mir Ali in the North Wazirstan Agency on a tip off that the militants were busy preparing vehicle borne improvised explosive devices.
The operation resulted in the deaths of 10 more militants, most of them foreigners, said the statement. According to AFP, most of the militants were Uzbek.
Talking to The Express Tribune, a National Assembly member (MNA) from North Waziristan Muhammad Nazir Khan said he had asked a security official to temporarily lift the curfew from the area as, according to him, civilians were caught in the crossfire, which had inflicted casualties.
“We need a little time to get the injured out of the area” he said. However, independent verification of the incident could not be made.

@jameel: BTW, just look at how peaceful Iraq is after America left! Thinking that everything will be peaceful again in Pakistan after 2014 is a delusion!
So basically the generals are performing their duty as hired contract killers for USA ? As most of the killed were civilians.And the story of 3 army man injured creates more doubts ! We need to stop killing our own people,rather we should kick out USA(along with blackwater) so that we can live peacefully ! The shelling of populated areas chasing militants even for revenge is not done by any professional army in the world which would only cause collateral damage than killing any militant. Indian army has never resorted to shelling against militants both in Kashmir as well as North East region. It so appears that more civilians have been killed than the militants which needs to be investigated to avoid such incidents as the same are even worst than drone attacks.
so let me get this straight...when drones target them its bad....but when we target them its good...can we make up our mind.
These animals need to be eliminated, whether it takes drones or army, or US forces on ground. Just eliminate them and their support and sympathizer network.
Then you will see real progress in Pakistan.
