Twenty-one bonded labourers, including women and children, were released from a private jail of a landlord in the katcha areas of the Gemro police limits in district Ghotki on Tuesday.
Lachman Bheel had filed an application in the Ghotki district and sessions court stating that 21 men, women and children of his family have been kept in illegal detention by landlord Abdul Rasool Chachar.
The court ordered the police to recover the detainees. SHO Gemro police station Anwar Ali Mahar raided the place.
The recovered persons and the landlord were produced before the court. In their statement, the recovered persons said that they had been kept in illegal detention for the last three years.
SHO Mahar told The Express Tribune that the landlord had stated before the court that the recovered persons were telling lies and were working on his agricultural land for the last two months. The landlord claimed that he had paid them a huge amount as advance.
