LAHORE: Dense haze blanketed areas of Punjab, Peshawar and Sukkur on Monday and disturbed flight schedules of almost a dozen domestic and international flights at the Allama Iqbal International Airport in Lahore.

The fog started late Sunday night and completely engulfed Lahore and its adjoining areas by Monday morning. Sheikhupura, Gujranwala, Okara, Gujrat, Sahiwal, Pattoki, Multan and other areas of Punjab also faced intense misty conditions.

According to the Meteorological Department, the intensity and duration of the fog is likely to increase in the plains of Punjab and around Peshawar.  “Gujranwala and Lahore will be the centre of dense fog during next few days,” a Met officer said.

He said that the current fog spell in the plains of Punjab would continue with variable intensity and occasional gaps till the first good spell of winter rains in the country.
