Heritage: Wekh Lahore photo contest opens on Wednesday

The Walled City of Lahore Authority will hold its second Wekh Lahore photography contest on December 18.

The Walled City of Lahore Authority will hold its second Wekh Lahore photography contest on December 18.


The contest is being organised in collaboration with the Lahore Photography Club and the Lahore Alhamra Arts Council. The official launch of the event will be held on December 18 at the Fort Road Food Street.

Wekh Lahore will display the work of more than 400 amateur and professional photographers.



The competition itself will be held in January 2014. and entries for the contest be registered by the Lahore Photography Club.

The two categories of the contest will be Street Life and Architecture in Walled City Lahore.

WCLA Director General Kamran Lashari, said, “Phototourism needs to be promoted. In this age of information technology, people all over the world can view a photograph with just one click. I am glad to announce this photo contest and I am sure photographers will participate in it with zeal and vigour. This is just one step which WCLA is taking to promote tourism and attract people towards old Lahore.”

WCLA Deputy Director Tania Qureshi said, “This is going to be the biggest photo competition ever held in Lahore. We are trying our best to attract the youth to explore old Lahore.”

LPC Executive Member Nadeem Dar said, “We have taken this initiative to promote the Walled City. It is time that people appreciate their culture and heritage.”

LPC President Masood Ahmed, President LPC, said he was “very happy” at the response they had gotten.
