Human rights: ‘Criminal justice system must improve’

AWAM director Nazia Sardar says govt must take steps to protect rights of citizens.

FAISALABAD: “The government must take steps to protect the rights of citizens,” Association of Women for Awareness and Motivation (AWAM) director Nazia Sardar said on Friday. She was speaking at a vigil organised by several human rights organisations in front of the Faisalabad Press Club to pay tribute to Nelson Mandela. “Domestic violence is continuously rising in Pakistan… those involved in violence against women should be severely punished,” she said.Peace and Human Development (PHD Foundation) director Suneel Malik said, “The government must augment efforts to protect vulnerable sections of the society and to provide them with legislative, administrative, institutional and infrastructural support.”  Activist Shazia George said the criminal justice system must be strengthened through procedural reform.
