Pakistan teenagers dominated the second day of the World Youth Scrabble Championship (WYSC) as Moizullah Baig continued his winning streak in Dubai on Friday.
Moiz had a slow start on the opening day, but picked up his pace after only one defeat from Thailand’s Nuttapong Pholthip in the second round. He had won 13 of the 14 rounds till the filing of this report.
He avenged his earlier defeat from Pholthip in the 11th round on Friday, winning 382-280 to claim top spot in the competition among 136 players. The youngster also outplayed his teammates Javeria Mirza 459-339 and Arham Abidi 435-388 in the following two rounds.
He then defeated another Thai player Naravit Nathapukdi to consolidate his place in top position.
Meanwhile, Hammad Hadi Khan and Arham also continued among the top 10 players.
Hammad defeated Australia’s Anand Bharadwaj 389-371 and Trinidad and Tobago’s Alissa Noel 451-368 in the 12th and 13th round.
Pakistan finished in fifth position last year at the WYSC.
