The disciplinary committee of the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) on Thursday suspended the registrations of five doctors and censured eight others for medical negligence and possessing fake degrees.
Amir Shahzad has been barred from practicing and his registration rescinded completely for submitting a fake degree with the council, said a press release.
The decision was made after verification of his higher secondary school certificate (HSSC) degree by Inter-Board Committee of Chairmen (IBBCC) declared it fake.
Meanwhile the committee suspended the registration of four doctors for a period ranging from three and six months. The committee suspended the licence of Dr Faiz Rasool of Faiz Eye and Diabetic Centre, Rawalpindi, for his negligence during an eye operation. The registrations of Dr Ali Raza and Dr Raiwat Shah of District Headquarters Hospital (DHQ), Nowshera, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, were suspended for negligence in treatment of a cardiac patient. The council suspended the registration of Dr Raja Sadaqat Mahmood of Tehsil Headquarters Hospital (THQ) Kahuta, Rawalpindi District, for allowing his technicians to treat patients.
Meanwhile, the registration of Dr Ghazala Akram, a gynaecologist at City Hospital, Mirpur, Azad Kashmir, was suspended for three months for medical negligence after she left a sponge in a patient’s abdomen during surgery.
Similarly, the committee censured eight doctors for medical negligence.
Dr Zahid, Dr Fatima and Dr Farhana Azhar of Fatima Hospital Wah Cantt and Dr Inayatullah, Dr Ejaz Ahmad Khan, Dr Taqdees Naqash, Dr Sehrish Gul and Dr Abdullah Ali Lashari of Shifa International Hospital were all found guilty of negligence.
The committee also asked Dr Tahir Chaudhry to return the scholarship amount he had taken from Benazir Bhutto Hospital (BBH) Rawalpindi for study during service as it was against the law.
