Chairman of PEMRA has said that his authority had issued fifth licence to Geo TV on the instructions of a bench of the SC headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry.
Speaking in a private television programme, PEMRA Chairman Rasheed Ahmed admitted that the regulatory body issued five licences to Geo. He also acknowledged that, according to PEMRA legislation, the authority could issue only four licences to one media group.
According to the Rules, Section 13(1) of The PEMRA Rules, 2009, was added “to ensure that fair competition is facilitated, media diversity and plurality are promoted”.
The programme host, Mubashir Lucman, said that Justice Chaudhry ignored the corruption of Geo group.

The former CJ and his son can probably claim immunity under NRO like Gilani and Zardari. Nothing will happen. This is Pakistan. Zardari became president of this country!
Let there be no doubt who this vile man "Justice Ifthikhar" worked for
Iftikhar chaudry and his son - Don Arsalan have to now answer for all the crimes and corruption. I would request the FIA to immediately put both of them on ECL and I would urge the new CJ to take suo moto notice on not only the Geo license, but how Geo got cricket rights from Najam Sethi, and how Geo keeps getting all the government advertisement media instead of the other media news agencies who are also entitled.
The nexus between Iftekhar Chaudhry, Jang group and PMLN has been there for long time. I suspect, its the magic of saudi money which Mr. Shrief brought with him when he was forced into pakistan by Saudia dispite the agreement.
We know Saudia will not do anything without US backing. On one hand US persuaded Musharraf to allow PPP to come back and on the other hand pushed saudia to send Nawaz. The reason is obvious. To create a political strugle and caos so that they get minimum resistance from Pak government. They suspected musharraf was double crossing them and pakistan was getting stronger economically and less and less dependent on world doners.
