LAHORE:

An additional district and sessions judge has sought comments from the Kot Lakhpat SHO on a petition filed by a woman seeking a case against her husband for allegedly assaulting her and asking her to abort their child.

Petitioner Tahira Bibi submitted that she wed Constable Muhammad Arshad on October 21, 2011. She said that when she was two months pregnant, Arshad pushed her to get an abortion. When she refused, he beat her and kicked her out of the house, she said. He then took a second wife, she said, without getting her consent or divorcing her.

She said that she approached the police to lodge a complaint, but they did not entertain her. She asked the court to direct the SHO to register a case against her husband for assault, for pressing her to abort their child and for getting a second wife. She also asked that her husband be made to pay expenses for their child’s delivery and maintenance.
