It seems like everything is heading in the right direction for Pakistani cinema, as the makers of Waar have already announced its sequel, Waar 2. Waar became the highest grossing film in Pakistan’s cinematic history when it surpassed the Rs200 million mark at the local box office in November, beating Chooriyan’s record-breaking take when it was released in 1998.
Though the film is yet to be released internationally, with the UAE and the UK being the first likely release regions, the sequel has already been announced for an expected release in 2015.
Waar revolves around the efforts of the Pakistani army and intelligence forces as they try to stop a terrorist attack from occurring within the country. The film stars actors Shaan and Hamza Abbasi.
Representative of ARY films revealed that Waar 2 will not be directed by Bilal Lashari, but by the writer/producer of Waar, Dr Hassan Waqas Rana. The reason behind this directorial change has not been disclosed. Sources close to ARY Films reveal that given the massive success of Waar on Eid 2013, the producers are aiming for an Eid 2015 release for the sequel.
Waar 2 will be a collaboration between Mindworks Media and ARY Films, and is all set to go into production in 2014. The movie will be shot in a number of international locations including Russia, Yugoslavia, UK and Turkey and will cast both local and international actors. However, this is not the only collaborative project between the two companies. Mindworks and ARY will also be collaborating on another movie, Delta Echo Foxtrot. Details of the two projects were shared at a press conference held at the ARY office in Saddar, Karachi on Saturday. Speaking on the occasion, Mr Salman Iqbal, President and founder of ARY Digital Network said, “After the super success of Waar and the sound relationship that we have developed with Mind works Media, it is natural for both companies to bring their expertise together for even bigger and better movies.”
Top-notch directors from both Pakistan and Hollywood will work under the umbrella of this collaboration. Shooting for Delta Echo Foxtrot, the first venture under this collaboration will begin at the end of 2013, with the film slated for a 2014 release. The plot for Delta Echo Foxtrot will centre on the concepts of courage, sacrifice, passion and patriotism. While the cast of this movie is yet to be finalised, it will not only boast top names in the industry, but will also find new faces, auditions for which are currently being held. Further details of both the movies will be shared in the coming weeks.

I hope that is going to be better than waar 1. The other good thing is the director of the film is the writer of this as well, writer visualizes his script better than all. This not only leads to a great work but also it saves time as he knows what he wants to see in every frame.
Can't wait. Don't mind the nay-sayers, if it were up to them, even Pakistan would not have come into being.
@Kafka: No truer words were ever spoken!
Great work. After pushing the limits in housing, banking, leasing, and food products etc, now the defenders of our frontiers are venturing into film industry.
Best of luck guys! Go nuts! But remember a scene that starts at night and ends at night, must have night throughout! Which didn't happen when shaan entered terrorist headquarter! few second of that scene are in gross daylight! LOL! and donot try to depict margalla hills and surroundings of twin city as waziristan :P
The USP of the movie "Waar" was that it showed Indians, Jews, Americans, Jinns etc as the cause of all problems in Pakistan. No wonder such movies are much appreciated by the cinema audiences in Pakistan. :-)
Hey this anybody see the movie is gonna be shot in Yugoslavia. It doesnt exist anymore jeez :p
ARY Films and Mindworks production seem to be at 'Waar' with Bilal Lashari.
Waar 2 bekaar without bilal . Mr hassan u should think again . Bilal lashari is a master piece .
I don't think Waar two would be upto mark without Bilal Lashari's directoral services, ARY seriously must rethink of sacking/sidelining Bilal.
Yugoslavia? are they going back in time to shoot the film?
Agree with RAJ KAFIR. Dub it in Chinese and even if we target 5% of one BILLION chinese, we make nice little extra profit.
Yugoslavia!
Release Waar in international market and it will create more records in UK, USA & UAE....but anyways...Waar 2 will be surely another blockbuster and for Delta Echo Foxtrot...we have to wait and see what comes up in this mpvie...all the best for Pakistani cinema
No Bilal lashari?,,,,,good luck...you're gonna need it.
without releasing the first one in international Market? come on... we are here in UAE and waiting..
Also, don't forget to put it on Netflix and Vudu later on.
ET!Waar wasn't released on Eid-ul-Fitr rather on Eid-ul-Azha.
@Raj Kafir: Raj, I am involved with the new projects and you gave us an excellent idea. What translation service do you guys use isn Bollywood as they do an excellent Urdu script/dubbing for hindi moves that I ve seen in Pakistan! Thanks in advance for your help.
@shahjahan: International hit? According to this news item it has not yet been released elsewhere.
Good news but Waar was a masterpiece of Bilal Lashari....I think they might be thinking of sidelining him because he is a perfectionist and therefore, likely to slow down the time to market for the new release. However, it is also true that it would be very difficult to pull off high quality acting or editing without Bilal's input.
@Raj Kafir, but our indian movies are waste of time with copy pasting from all possible movies, looks like we have no talent left. At least Pakistanis are coming up with some original content.
Great news, Series of WAAR should continue. As its an international hit. People will love to go cinemas to watch this action thriller
I am a Pakistani, but Waar was the first actual Pakistani movie I saw. I think I made the mistake of not watching more Pakistani movies. While I didn't fully like the plot, where we blame all terrorism in Pakistan on India, I really liked everything else. I look forward to watching Waar 2.
