Spell-binding performance: Chinese troupe spreads message of love and hope

Flowing movements, colourful ensembles keep audience enthralled.

ISLAMABAD:

Through universal messages of love and hope, a Chinese troupe from the Xinjiang province captured the hearts of audience at the Pak-China Friendship Centre on Thursday. 

The musicians performed a series of music and dance performances, highlighting the close cultural contact between the two countries and whether it was a retro Chinese number or the Pakistani national song “Mein bhi Pakistan hoon,” the performers coalesced with the rhythm and beats.

Clad in traditional attire, the troupe offered a retreat with their fragile movements and animated expressions. From a dexterous juggler’s act to the joyous celebration of spring in the countryside, they had something to offer about their rich culture.

The live background scores adding to the ambience, the troupe also performed a dance to herald the sun in the Tajik belt. Balancing props and wearing garlands, the performers exuded with colour, energy and zest. Throughout the dimly-lit auditorium, one could trace enthusiasts waving flags of both the countries to express solidarity with each other.

The unique elements of the cultural performances complemented the other and invited a round of applause and appreciation from the crowd.

“The beauty of music and dance is the effortless flow which appeals to the audience, even if they don’t understand the lyrics. I’ve picked up nuances here and there and find the ensemble enchanting,” said Anam from the audience, who is currently learning the Chinese language on a smart-phone application.
