CM promises modern homes for flood victims

Shahbaz promises to construct 6,000 modern houses in the flood affected areas of Punjab.

Chief Minister Punjab, Shahbaz Sharif has promised to construct 6,000 modern houses in the flood affected areas of Punjab.


Talking to flood victims near Muzaffargarh, Shahbaz officially inaugurated the newly built villages. He was joined by the ambassadors of Turkey, Saudi Arabia and the principal officer of the US Consulate in Lahore.


The chief minister said the Punjab government will also provide technical training to the youth of the devastated areas.


Shahbaz also thanked the governments of Saudi Arabia and Turkey as well as their citizens for donating generously.


Aid has been flowing in from donor countries for the relief and rehabilitation of flood victims in various regions of Pakistan. The Turkish government recently pledged to provide financial assistance to Pakistan worth $150 million to protect and increase the productivity of livestock in Sindh. The Turkish delegation said their government would cooperate in rehabilitation process in Sindh, including the reconstruction of houses, repairs and renovation of school buildings, health centres, repairs of roads and bridges.


Saudi Arabia too has contributed much for the relief and rehabilitation activities in the country after the devastating floods this summer.


Punjab has suffered much damage due to the floods. Earlier reports quoted Shahbaz Sharif as reporting those affected by the floods to be at 8.5 million in Punjab with damage worth of around Rs80 billion.
