KARACHI: A former town nazim of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) went 'missing' from Clifton on Thursday night after being picked up allegedly by law enforcement agencies.

MQM's Rabita Committee member Wasay Jalil confirmed the news, telling The Express Tribune that MQM leader Osama Qadri was picked outside a mall in Clifton where he was shopping with his family.

Qadri had served as the Liaquatabad town nazim from 2005 to 2009.

Reports indicate he was taken away in car bearing government colours. CCTV footage obtained by Express News showed how he was approached by some men just as uniformed police officers escorted Qadri away.

Express News correspondent Aslam Khan said some reports suggest that Qadri is currently being held for interrogation by the police.

A statement from MQM's Rabita committee claimed that Qadri had been "abducted" by "unknown men".

The committee condemned the incident. The demanded that the government, including President Mamnoon Hussain, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar and Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah should take notice of this and recover Qadri as soon as possible.
