Wedding season is unmistakably in the air. While the Pantene Bridal Couture Week held last weekend may have had little to offer in the way of new designs for those getting married this winter, spring brides-to-be can certainly do with a refresher course in what bridal designers have to offer for the 2013-2014 wedding season. Take a look at our bridal trend rundown for inspiration for your special day.
Black is the new Black
While some collections may have tried too hard to cater to various tastes (Arsalan Iqbal on Day 1 of PBCW 2013), most of the collections shown on the ramp this year adhered to an overall theme and colour scheme. Perhaps the most noticeable trend for this year was the emergence of black as a colour that is being increasingly used for bridal attire. Traditionally, the connotations attached to the colour have made it one that was considered inappropriate for a young bride to wear on her wedding day, but with designers increasingly offering unconventional options for bridal joras in black (Ali Xeeshan, Asifa and Nabeel) we might see a daring, adventurous bride sporting the colour this shaadi season.

Jewel Tones for a Queen
Aside from the traditional red bridal jora, the colours most noticeably displayed on the ramp were shades of pink (Aisha Imran, Hina Butt), and blue (Deepak Parwani, Mehdi) ranging from the pastel and ethereal to the neon and vibrant. White and gold seemed to be the go-to combination for this bridal season, with most of the collections showing at least one piece in ivory and gilded gold.
Blushing Pink
Choli Fever
For those brides that want to look like one of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s bombshells on their special day, the lehnga-choli is back with a bang this wedding season, and was everywhere on the runway at PBCW (Ayesha-Somaya, Hour of Kamiar Rokni at the Depilex showcase). The other main cut on the ramp this season has been the elegant gown silhouette, and PBCW was no exception (Ammar Shahid, HSY). It looks like this fresh silhouette is here to stay, and will bring an interesting design element to attire that has always been time-honoured and strictly established by conventions.
