KARACHI: Mohammed Rehman led the opening round with a two-under-par 70 as the Chief of Naval Staff (CNS) Golf Championship teed off at the Royal Palm Golf Course in Lahore on Friday.

Rehman was on target right from the beginning and proved to be the better contender.

However, the three-round championship is still wide open with Ghazanfar Mehmood and Zulfiqar ending the first round just one stroke behind at 71.

Mehmood, who had a day of mixed fortunes – five birdies and double bogies – hoped for a better show in second round.

“I hope I will be able to avoid such setbacks in the remaining two rounds,” he said.

Sajid Khan (72) ended third followed by Tariq Mehmood (74), Salman Jehangir (75) and Mohsen Zafar (77).

Meanwhile, in the seniors event, Tariq Malik, Asif Mehdi, Javed Khan, Col Shafi, Anwarul Haq, Ashfaq Rasheed and Naeem Chaudry excelled to remain in contention for the title that is to be decided on Saturday.
