Law and order: Police team formed to control crime

BAHAWALPUR: “A police team has been constituted to control increasing street crime in Bahawalpur,” District Police Officer Sohail Habib Tajik said on Thursday. Speaking at a press conference, the DPO said City Circle DSP Riaz Hussain Bukhari, Inspector Aamir Hussain Ghauri, the Civil Lines SHO and Sub-Inspector Farhan Hussain would be part of the team. He said the policemen had already busted a gang involved in street crime in Bahawalpur. “The Bhatti Gang had comprised three educated youths. Two of its members have confessed to 22 roberries,” he said. The DPO said Bhatti Gang had robbed a lady doctor, a civil judge, several students, internet cafes and beauty parlours. He said the arrested gang members included Muhammad Jawad Bhatti, a resident of Model Town’s Block B and Umar Saleem, a resident of Sajid Awan Colony, Bahawalpur. He said the third member, Shahzad Bhatti, a resident of Model Town’s Block B was still at large and police would arrest him soon. Tajik said Rs0.7 million, two laptops, five mobile phones, a motorcycle, and illegal weapons had been recovered from them.
