Dhawan scored 119 off 95 balls; his innings was studded with 20 fours as the hosts made light work of the 264-run target. Yuvraj Singh regained his touch with a half century as his third wicket stand with Dhawan was worth 129 runs, which laid the foundations of the win.
Suresh Raina (34) and captain MS Dhoni (23*) ensured that there were no hiccups after Dhawan’s dismissal as they chased the target in 46.1 overs. Ravi Rampaul and Dwayne Bravo claimed two wickets each for the tourists.
Dhawan, who was awarded the man of the match award, was overjoyed after posting the fifth century of his short career thus far.
“It has been a great year for me,” he said, according to ESPNcricinfo. “I knew there would not be much bounce and the drives were on. I’m happy with my form, the team is doing great.”
Earlier in the day, West Indies posted a par score through half centuries by Kieran Powell (70) and Marlon Samuels (71).
Darren Bravo (51) and all-rounder Darren Sammy (37) added 67 runs for the unbroken sixth-wicket stand and injected some quick runs towards the end of the innings.
Ravichandram Ashwin captured two wickets, while Mohammed Shami and Ravindra Jadeja chipped in with a scalp each.
Meanwhile, Dhoni was happy with his batsmen, especially man of the series Virat Kohli who amassed 204 runs in the series.
“The openers gave a very good start,” said the captain. “Virat has been in form, and we have finished well with the lower order.”
