FATA’s Sadia storms into final

Defeats Farha in Roshan Khan Open U19 event.

KARACHI: Fata’s talented female squash player Sadia Gul stormed into the finals of the Parco 5th Roshan Khan Junior Open U19 event after thrashing Punjab’s Farha Manzoor in straight sets at the PN Roshan Khan and Jahangir Khan Squash Complex.

Sadia played a high tempo match, never allowing her opponent to settle as she wrapped an emphatic victory in just 15 minutes with scores of 11-6, 11-5 and 11-6.

She will now go on to face Faiza Zafar, who stunned Amna Latif 3-2, in the finale.

Faiza came back from two games down to notch up an impressive win in just under 50 minutes with scores of 10-12, 8-11, 14-12, 11-7 and 11-9.

In the boys’ U19 last-four matches, top seed Tayyab Aslam moved into the final where he will lock horns with unseeded Israr Ahmed.

Tayyab was cruising towards victory when his opponent Abbas Shoukat retired with scores of 8-11, 11-5, 11-2 and 9-5, to favour Tayyab.

Meanwhile, Israr registered a shock win against the highly  rated Asim Khan, seeded second, with a scoreline of 11-4, 8-11, 6-11, 11-7 and 11-8 in a marathon match that lasted for an hour and a half.

Asif, according to the Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF), is amongst those junior players who can produce top performances after the likes of Nasir Iqbal and Danish Atlas at that age.

Sumaid stuns top seed Ali in U17 semis

Sixth seed Sumaid Rasheed shocked top seed Ali Karamat in their U17 semi-final clash as Sumaid triumphed by scores of 11-8, 5-11, 12-14, 11-4 and 11-6.

Meanwhile, Kashif Asif won 3-0 against Ahmed Ali.

In the U15 category, Faizan Khan and Umair Gul won their last-four encounters to set up a final date for Thursday.
