A number of shops and government offices were partially damaged in a blast inside Liaqat Market, Hospital Road on Monday, however, no loss of life was incurred. Swabi police station SHO Izhar Shah told The Express Tribune nine shops were damaged in the explosion which occurred around 8:45pm.  Shah said the bomb, which had been planted by unidentified militants, contained 10 kilogrammes of explosives and had been placed inside a pressure cooker.


Windows and doors of shops and nearby offices were partially damaged, said the SHO. A police official living on the second floor of a building in the market remained unharmed, added Shah. Haqqani Library, IG special branch office and the judicial lockup are situated near Liaqat Market.

DPO Sajjad Khan and a number of policemen rushed to the site and started a search operation. No arrest was made till the filing of this report.  The SHO added an FIR has been registered against unidentified culprits.
